I finally felt comfortable in attending GVSU once I joined PRSSA. Despite feeling homesick often, PRSSA makes everything worth it for me. I was never the kid who excelled at sports or who got good grades throughout school and that always took a toll on me. After deciding on a major and being introduced to amazing professors and classmates, I truly feel like this is where I belong and PRSSA is the reason for that. In my first two years of college, I have seen myself accomplish and excel at things I never even knew I was capable of.
After getting to know to my fellow PRSSbae’s, I began to realize so many are in the exact position as me. One of the best feelings is being able to have a conversation about your future, your motivations, and your inspirations with someone who feels exactly the same way— and that is what makes this club so great. Everyone is incredibly supportive of you and pushes to you accomplish great things. It is very reassuring to know that so many people are on your team.
Last semester I went to an event presented by the APR speaker series that focused on the myths, mystiques, and mandatories in the workplace (basically life advice to take with us to the real world). There is a very simple statement that I was told at this event that I would like to share with you because it has stuck with me since and has gone on to be something I live by: “Fill your life with people who inspire you, people who you want to be and make sure you look around at who you spend time with.” Those who have the same goals and aspirations as you are going to be the ones to get you far in life and help you to achieve your successes.
Anyways, enough life advice or whatever that was, let’s get to the point. As your VP of member services there are a few things I plan to focus on. The first being recruitment, I want to increase our numbers in underclassmen to ensure a great and solid future for PRSSA. Another thing I plan to focus on is making sure everyone is always confident in their decision to be a part of this chapter. I will execute this plan by showcasing all of the opportunities being given and persuading all members to take advantage of them. I want to make sure I can always answer the question what’s in it for me? to each and every member.
Lastly, always remember that all of PRSSA is on your team; take this and use it to your advantage. Get advice, be a hustler, work hard AND smart, and be memorable. Before I close, there's one thing I’d like to challenge you with...this year I challenge you to make personal and professional connections even if it means you have to step out of your comfort zone to introduce yourself to others. Connections are everything and don’t forget it honey!
