Hello there, my fellow PR peeps! My name is Laurel Budrick and I will be your Member Services Chair for this upcoming school year. I will be the go-to gal for Christina Oberly, your VP of Member Services. Some of my duties include keeping track of payments, helping create lovely newsletters, responding to emails, checking attendance at every meeting, and tracking your points (so you can earn graduation cords and awards).
This will be my third year at Grand Valley studying Advertising & Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. I spent half my summer in Allendale enjoying the sweet smell of turkey farms in the morning and working at a local daycare. Although I enjoyed taking care of multiple screaming children, I moved back to my hometown of Ann Arbor where I spent my time traveling, training for a half-marathon, working on my personal blog, and working on my family's farmland.
Although I did not spend my summer gaining internship experience, I was still able to broaden my communication skills and made so many new connections (hello new LinkedIn friends), which then granted me internship opportunities for the upcoming school year. I would say the majority of the past speakers that came to speak at our meetings always mentioned how important it is to get out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself. Networking is super important! PRSSA has really helped me realize this in particular.
I joined PRSSA a year and a half ago and I am so thankful I did. It opened my eyes to what I am capable of and what I personally needed to work on. PRSSA will definitely help before you step into the real world by giving you opportunities to go to agency tours, meet professionals, complete workshops, and make so many connections! Every time I left a meeting I felt at ease knowing that this was the major for me. I am confident you will leave each meeting with a smile on your face and always motivated. My goal for this year is to make even more connections through PRSSA, go to even more agency tours, attend workshops, and bulk up my resume. I am also very excited to be going to my first National Conference in October!
Please, always feel free to reach out to me via email or twitter with any questions regarding PRSSA that you may have. See you at our first meeting!
