Hey GV PRSSA! As summer comes to an end, it’s time to focus on school. But do you know what that means? PRSSA meetings! I can’t wait to get to know every one of you and get back into the swing of things. But for now, here’s a bit about myself.
My name is Vanessa Lansdale and I’m originally from the east side of Michigan, but I had my heart set on Grand Valley ever since I visited Grand Rapids. Freshman year I came in not knowing what my major would be. But after much deliberation, I picked Advertising and Public Relations and have never looked back. In addition to majoring in Advertising and Public Relations (PR emphasis), I’m also double minoring in Nonprofit Administration and Digital Studies. A mouthful, right? Try saying that every time someone asks what you’re going to school for!
Anyway, once I picked APR as my major, I dove right in by joining PRSSA and the APR Alumni Relations Committee. Now I have the honor of leading the committee as the Director of Alumni Relations. We send out newsletters to students and alumni, fundraise, and keep in contact with alumni, among other things.
In addition to being the Director of Alumni Relations, I am the Marketing Communications Intern at The Right Place, the photographer for the APR program, and an Account Associate at GrandPR. In my free time, you can catch me camping, hiking, going to concerts, and taking photographs. I love the phrase “be the change you want to see in the world.” I believe everyone has the chance to make a difference in the world, no matter how small that difference may be. This belief, along with my love for photography, are the reasons why I’m double minoring in Nonprofit Administration and Digital Studies. I have my plate full, but I couldn’t be happier with where I’m at and where the APR program has brought me.
Even though I have only been with PRSSA for one year, it has been such a blessing. PRSSA has given me the opportunity to network, build my resume, tour agencies, advance my skills, and so much more. Every time I come to a meeting I get excited about my career path. Even if you aren’t sure advertising and public relations is for you, still consider coming to a meeting. PRSSA gives you an abundance of opportunities and you won’t regret joining.
